i don't i could ever skip the first song on an album, if i didn't like the first track i wouldnt bother listening to the album at all. Fortunately bands generally put one of their strongest tracks as an opener - which in this case in appropriate for Nadine.

First listen: What is that stupid sort-of punk song?.. and those words.
Now: What a great stupid rock-song!.. and those words!

Things do not change much. Our appreciation does. Expression of hope

I just recently picked up the Nadine single. I love that song. The cd single is one of my favorites due to the fact that it has live songs on it. I always like hearing live music instead of studio tracks. You just feel how raw the music really is.

nadine is totally the best song on SMYT. The rest doesn't even come up to nadine's shins.

I just put Nadine on a rockin compilation for my friend, those thunderous gutairs at the end are killer, I find it hard to believe its straight to tape. Great song. When I got SMYT, Nadine reconfirmed my faith that Frank can totally rock even though I equaly love his country vibe.

Yeah, you have to wonder how he manages to play different chords.

I wouldn't call it awful but I'm with you on this.
Oh and Nadine Rocks.

Not me my friend, its one of my favourites on the album. I mean, do you play guitar? Those chords in the middle to the "I never dreamed" bit are pure genius. Beautiful and 100% Frank inspired. Everytime I listen to Jaina I find myself waiting in anticipation for that bit, slowly turning up the noise maker to 10 along the way.

and Nadine, I've skipped it too in the past. Now I listen to the first verse because I love Franks voice on this one but knowing what comes next, I do skip.
Superabounder Posted - 11/27/2004 : 02:20:13
I can't help it, but I like Jaina blues. It doesn't hurt that I work with a pretty woman named Jayna, so there is that whole added dynamic. Still the guitar is good no matter if you know a Jaina or not. Dracula, maybe you just need to focus on your yoga a little more.

I think this is one of the best songs of his entire career. I love it. Love playing it on the acoustic. Very powerful song.

I guess I just wasn't made for these times.

ehh. Its kind of boring, and after having the nadine ep for a month or more before getting SMYT, i kind of burned out on it fast. Definitely skip. Actually, only one of two skips on SMYT. The others goodbye lorraine. stupid song

what a song! the ending knocks me out and franks vocals shine. i exspecially like the snotty way he says "there goes nadine" the very last time before the go into the heavy outro. nice kick in the shorts to start the album

Experiencing a song live has changed how I feel about a lot of songs as well. Watching how much the artist puts into it as they sing it makes me re-appreciate it. Plus I think the visual as opposed to just hearing it makes a big difference in how I perceive something in certain cases. And no, I have not seen the kitty video! Although I have seen the Mexican cat-juggling video.
dayanara Posted - 11/26/2004 : 08:33:50
Not only do I never skip Nadine, but I can't even IMAGINE doing so. Come on, guys, this song totally rocks. What is it specifically that you don't like about it? Too repetitive? Everyone has seen the kitty video, yes?

She's got a big gray car, gonna TAKE me FOR a ride!

I admit it...I skipped it at first. It sounded so different to me than the rest of the songs that it required a different mindset for me to enjoy. The beginning sounded more low-fi, and I would immediately skip to the brighter, more complete sound of "Everything is New". I did the same thing with "1826" for a while. Finally I heard it at the right moment where I appreciated the crunch and sustain of those Vox amps and I never skip either of them anymore.
Cult_Of_Frank Posted - 11/26/2004 : 07:09:18
I actually used to skip it when I listened to SMYT a lot, as it got boring, but now that I listen less, I love it more.

I think it's unskippable :)

"Just kill the one with the sword first."
"Ah," Reagan says, raising his waxed and penciled eyebrows, and cocking his pompadour in Shaftoe's direction. "Smarrrt--you target them because they're the officers, right?"
"No, fuckhead!" Shaftoe yells. "You kill 'em because they've got fucking swords! You ever had anyone running at you waving a fucking sword?"
