Jewel

It's a b side, lesser known tune but I would like to know the story behind it. It's pretty far out as they say. What vintage are we talking here (sounds Catholics vintage) and is there some hidden meaning in the lyrics, that sort of thing? Thanks for the help.

I just got a bunch of Frank's "B-Sides" and Jewel was included. Like most of Frank's music, my opinions go a little something like this: 1st listen-good song, 2nd listen-very good song, 3rd listen-great song, 4th and subsequent listens-one of Frank's best.

Anyway, what I notice most about Jewel is how the quality of Frank's voice really stands out. This song is very full, with a lot of parts to listen to, including Bowie (I love Bowie's music and his voice is good, but compared to Frank's voice in concert....), is Frank's most perfect pitch, Frank's most perfect tone. To me, it's one of his trademarks. Even in the "Black Sessions", it is Frank's voice that keeps the pitch true and the melodies pleasing to the ear, when all around him others may be drifting, Frank never strays.

The song kicks ass. I always thought it must be Grohl singing the first verse, but is that Frank Black?

Nothing is ever something.

I love that first part where he talks about the boy's heart. Nice rhythm, melody and vocal interactions. I like the grungy shouting to back Frank up. Something out of the ordinary to add to the rotation!

Jewel is a good rocky gloomy song about a man who has no heart and who is a king of cruelty. Mostly Sung by Frank Black you can also hear the sexy voice of David Bowie. Who is the most evil? Some Grohl plays drums but who cares... Reeves Gabrels plays (sort of) guitar... Nice interaction between my favorite divinities Krsna and Buddha... Co-written by Black, Bowie, Gabrels and Marl Plati. Recorded shortly after the 50th Birthday Party Bowie Groovy in 1997... Album... well see above...
